Today we will be doing something a little different for getting our whole-Scripture context. You are welcome to look up the cross-references in your own Bible, but I am not going to provide a bunch of different verses to look up. Instead, I would like to focus on just one passage: Hebrews 12:1-17. The author of Hebrews is unknown, but like 1 Peter, it was also written to a group of Christians facing persecution. Read the Hebrews passage and take note of any similarities to what we’ve been studying in 1 Peter. How does it deepen your understanding of Peter’s letter?
Persecution is not just an ancient phenomenon. Christians around the world are persecuted every day. In fact, persecution is the rule, while the freedom of religion we experience in America is the exception. Click here to read stories and pray for Christians who have been imprisoned for their faith around the world.
Some people think it won’t be long before Christians start facing persecution here. Are you ready to endure the cross for the joy that is set before you? If not, what is the weight or sin which is holding you back?
